Mandarin Club

Dear Parents,

The school is delighted to offer “Mandarin Club” starting twice a week during lunch-recess for students grade four and up. The cutoff is made because of the recess schedule conflict between the younger grades (K-3) and the older grades (4-7) this school year. 

Mrs. Xiao will run the Mandarin club. She plans to teach traditional Chinese as opposed to simplified Chinese in reading and writing. They are the same language spoken. Simplified Chinese is modern and it simplified the complex traditional writing to use fewer strokes.  If your child is literate in traditional Chinese, he/she can read simplified Chinese as well. In addition, classical Chinese literature is written in traditional Chinese characters. Please read the first paragraph here if you want to know more about how traditional and simplified Chinese are used.
