Message from the Principal:
An excellent, user-friendly and updated overview of the regular dress code for cooler months can be found here. For a more detailed version, read below.
Also, details on where to purchase the most durable boys’ pants (K-4) and girls’ tights can be found here.
Please familiarize yourself with the uniform policy, which is clear on substitutions: only shoes, socks, tights, belts, white dress shirts and polos (no visible brand emblem), and navy pants (K-4). All of these substitutions must be as close as possible in style and color to those provided by our uniform providers. All other items must be purchased from the uniform suppliers (skirts, pinafores, ties, blazers, sweaters, etc).
Note: Only those substitutions from our inaugural year that are indistinguishable from our current uniform and approved uniform pieces will be grandfathered in.
Order online from Landsend: all approved uniform items are available through this vendor. We recommend bundling online orders between $100 - $150 to avoid shipping and duties. Be sure to change shipping information to Canada.
Order online from InSchoolWear: several uniform items are now available, with more being added. The school code is “caaa.” This vendor also has a brick-and-mortar store in Calgary.
The Edmonton Classical Academy is a distinctive community, bound together by a shared goal of seeking moral and intellectual excellence in a spirit of friendship.
Our school uniform is a visible expression of this ideal: our students are part of a united community of learners, whose purpose transcends differences in socio-economic status, ethnic, religious, or racial background. In wearing their uniforms, students experience a sense of pride and belonging, and are reminded of their obligation to represent their school community well.
School uniforms serve several other important functions. They foster an environment that is conducive to learning by removing potential sources of distraction, anxiety, and peer competition. A uniform, properly fitted, worn and cared for, demonstrates respect for others and for oneself. It also helps to develop the student’s sense of propriety — that is, appropriateness in inward feeling and outward conduct, including through the observance of proper rituals and customs. By cultivating good outward habits in dress and decorum, students begin to internalize these habits. Finally, uniforms can encourage students in the development of an authentic personality, defined not through artificial expressions of individuality, but through the cultivation of inner virtues, talents, interests, habits, and traits that comprise genuine character.
A complete list of approved uniform options is provided through our school page at Land’s End (Note: not all approved items are mandatory – refer to uniform policy details below). Most uniform items, with the exception of blue shirts and yellow knitwear, can also be purchased through our school shop with Inschoolwear.com (school code: caaa). Only shoes, socks, tights, belts, white dress shirts and polos (no visible brand emblem), and navy pants (K-4) may be purchased through an alternative vendor if preferred. They must be the same color and shade as our uniform and not have any extra distinguishing characteristics (example - ruffles on the sleeves).
Students are expected to comply with uniform requirements at all times while on school property. Exceptions will be provided for concerts and performances, co-curricular or extra-curricular activities where a change in dress is required, semi-formal events, casual days, and other approved occasions.
Parents are expected to provide their children with the appropriate uniform attire. Should a student fail to adhere to the uniform policy, as determined by the Principal or Associate Principal, their parent/guardian will be notified, and a change in clothing may be required. As this can interfere with learning and create discomfort for the student, we ask that parents please familiarize themselves with the uniform and grooming policies, and ensure that their children arrive at school in the proper attire each day.
Families that require financial assistance in purchasing appropriate uniform items should advise the school administration at least one month prior to the start of the school year.
Ordering guide: Where possible, we recommend that families place orders with Landsend that are over $100 (to receive free shipping) but below $150 (to avoid duty charges). Families are reminded to adjust the “shipping to” and to shop from the Canadian version of the store.

Everyday Uniform
Girls must wear a collared shirt. The shirt can be a polo or button-up, with either short or long sleeves, in white or light blue. Cresting is optional.
With this, girls have the choice of wearing either the classic navy tartan jumper/pinafore or navy trousers. Solid black dress socks must be worn with the trousers (no white or coloured/striped socks or ankle socks).
The jumper/pinafore must be worn with leggings, tights, knee socks, or fold-over socks in navy. If wearing knee-socks, modesty shorts must be worn underneath. Socks worn with leggings must also be navy.
Uniforms must be worn with solid black, closed-toe shoes, kept clean and in good condition. For grades K-4, these can be solid black runners. Note: these solid black runners cannot be used as the gym shoes since we often go outside for gym class, and indoor shoes must remain indoor at all times to stay clean.
Girls may also wear a school-crested, knit cardigan, sweater, or sweater vest in grey, navy, or light yellow. No hoodies or fleece jackets/sweaters are permitted to be worn during class; these are for recess and gym only.
Formal Uniform
During weekly assemblies, concerts, and special events including picture day, the formal uniform must be worn.
The formal uniform consists of:
A white collared button-up or polo shirt, with either short or long sleeves
The classic blue tartan jumper/pinafore.
A school-crested light-yellow button-up cardigan
Tights or knee-socks in navy must be worn with the pinafore. If wearing knee-socks, modesty shorts must be worn underneath.

Summer Uniform
During the months of August, September, May, and June, girls in Grades K-4 may wear a modified uniform consisting of a navy skirt or skort that falls to the top of the knee in lieu of the pinafore or trousers. The skirt or skort must be worn with leggings, tights, knee socks, or fold-over socks in navy. If wearing socks, modesty shorts must be worn underneath.
Gym Uniform
Note: The K-4 gym uniform is not provided by one of our approved vendors and does not need to be crested (while the 5-8 gym uniform must be). However, colors must closely match those of the 5-8 gym uniform and must be free of pop culture and branding.
K-4 students:
Each student in grades K-4 should have a gym bag (smaller drawstring gym bags only – pictured below) containing a pair of athletic shoes (with solid grip on the soles to ensure safety, e.g. cross-trainers, tennis shoes, running shoes, sneakers - can be any colour) and gym clothes in school colors. These are navy-blue sweatpants and shorts, a navy-blue zip up sweater, a light grey t-shirt for boys, and a light blue t-shirt for girls.
Please remember that the clothing and bags are to be free of pop culture references and branding.
Final Note on Shoes: All students will have three pairs of shoes at school: their outdoor footwear that they come to school in and wear for outdoor recess (this may be regular shoes or rain boots or winter boots, for example), their indoor shoes that are either kept at school or students bring with them daily, and their gym shoes which are also kept at school (any colour so long as not a distraction - for example, with pop culture).
